Alpine Loop Motorcycling
Shaun Roundy in Horse Flats October '08The weather has been perfect again. Warm and sunny. Better use it up while it lasts! This afternoon was a perfect chance to take advantage of living right up against such a beautiful mountain as Timpanogos. CJ, Curtis and I hopped on our bikes and spent the afternoon riding the Ridge, Tibble Fork, Mill Hollow, Little Deer Creek & Horse Flats Trails from the Alpine Loop summit. The recent snow settled all the dust and there was only a little mud and ice left - enough, however to cause a few small crashes. CJ went down on one frozen stream crossing and his motorcycle spun in circles like he was trying out for the Ice Capades. Curtis hoped to make it through the day without going down, but after two crashes near the end, said, "I wonder what I keep hitting?" "The ground," I helpfully explained. The best trail - possibly my favorite anywhere around Utah Valley - is Mill Hollow. It has an extensive semi-steep and super-rocky section. It's a perfect combination of challenge while being easy enough to be pure fun. At one point, three deer ran across the trail 30' in front of me. I'm surprised how much I enjoy watching the graceful animals despite having seen thousands. CJ and CD in Horse Flats. Not much to tell, I guess, except that it was very beautiful and exciting and relaxing and I felt really, really good being outside and up there with my friends. It was also a good break from grading which goes maddeningly slowly. There's so much to do. I need a haircut.
