Hi. I'll make this short and to the point. This post is mostly here for another link to my Christmas Books site. But while I'm at it, I'll provide a very quick tutorial on how to get your web page ranked better so ppl can find it. First, pick the keywords you want to go for. To do this, go here (sign up for an Adwords account if you don't already have one). Click "Reporting and Tools" tab and "Keyword Tool" if that link doesn't take you straight there. Type in words you think people would use to find your page, then choose something that gets searched on a lot, and maybe something that has less competition. Finish up by doing a search for your optimal keywords and verify that you think you can knock some of the competition off page one. For example, aiming for page one on a search for "Christmas" probably will not happen. Next, add links to your site using your chosen keywords as the link text. Like above, you see that my link to ChristmasNovels.com uses the text "Christmas books." That's the keyword phrase I'm targeting. I'm already on page one for "Christmas Novels" and "books" gets a lot more searches. I have a site on page four and twelve for that search. Not good enough. Good thing I have some page ones for other, less popular searches. Avoid obvious cheating, like adding links to sites that are just there for promotion of pages. You can get dinged for that. You can add comments to blog posts that also score well on your chosen search, but know that most blogs automatically add "no_follow" to the link, which makes it so it doesn't help your score, either. Other cheating includes using the keywords too much all over a page. Also, if you can get your keywords as part of your URL (web page name), that helps, like with this Christmas books blog where I sometimes post related news items, and where I also use the words I'm targeting. See? Now I just gave that site one more "vote" (by adding a link to it), which makes it score better, which makes its links to my other sites score better as well.
